History:
Jonathan Reynhart is the spawn of the unmoving earth and the ever changing seas, of a notorious pirate captain and a simple blacksmith. The story of his parents meeting is a tale full of chance meetings, silent promises, and of a brief, but bright, love. Emmalynn Vestige was a young pirate captain when she encountered Julius Reynhart. The gruff blacksmith struck a chord in her and he found himself smitten with her. The story is mostly muddied and distorted by time and the slurred words of Julius, but what is known is that after several months Emmalynn found herself with child. Emmalynn and Julius assumed the role of a happy couple while together and they were for the most part. Julius was content to be tied down but Emmalynn... she could stay in one place for long. She couldn't stand being bound to land and had the urge to roam the seas and plunder just as she had.
There were several times when she almost left while with child, but Julius always talked her down. Once Jonathan was born however things changed. Maternal instincts forced down her desires and she remained with her child and 'husband'. During that time Jonathan was shown to be an incredibly cheerful and bright child, clinging to his mother while his father worked over his forge. This trend continued for two years before Emmalynn's longing returned. Before Jonathan's second birthday the woman stole away into the night, leaving behind a note for her lover and her young child. It simply told of how she had to leave in the middle of the night, else have Julius talk her out of it.
Thirteen years down the line Jonathan had followed in his father's footsteps working as an apprentice. His father, due to the loss of his mother, had taken to drinking and his son's natural talent with smithing only propelled him deeper into alcoholism. Jonathan had proven to have a preternatural ability to forge intricate and complex works. His favorite things to create were weapons, especially firearms. They proved to be a challenge and distracted him from the outside world. Their interlocking parts and the complexity of their inner-workings
